The Mustangs stayed undefeated this week after another perfect weekend that saw them go 6-0. With the wins Western retains their perfect record at 17-0 to lead the league.
Their competitive week began on Thursday, when the Mustangs travelled to Windsor to take on the Lancers and came away with two victories by a score of 11-0, and 10-3.
Game one saw
Kristen Pearn,
Briar Balas,
Kendra Dawson, and
Emma Parno emerge as top hitters for the Mustangs. Â Pearn recorded a home run, two singles, Balas had three RBIs and three runs, while Dawson and Parno each picked up two runs and an RBI. In the circle
Rachael Jacques and
Jaymie Mailloux combined for the five inning run rule win.
The rematch saw
Sara Contini record 10 strikeouts in the run rule victory, while
Emma Murray,
Laura Chappel,
Jayme Wells, Balas, and Dawson were the offensive stars for Western. Murray recorded two singles, one double, one triple, 5 RBIs, and two runs, while Chapel recorded two singles and 3 RBI. Wells pitched in a double and two runs, Balas added two singles, two RBIs, and one run, while Dawson rounded out the group with a triple, one RBI, and two runs.
Saturday saw the purple and white take down Queen's twice in Kingston, by scores of 6-0 and 5-0. In game one Jacques blanked the Gaels, recording a two hitter with 13 strikeouts. At the plate
Alana Cress recorded two singles, one double, and two RBIs to lead the Mustangs, while
Courtney Reynolds added two runs.
Game two saw Dawson dominate offensively with one double, one triple, one run, and 2 RBIs alongside
Riley Cunningham. Cunningham recorded a single, a double, and a run, while Reynolds added another two runs for the Mustangs. Contini served as pitcher for the game, with 7 strikeouts.
Western continued to dominate on Sunday, taking both ends of a doubleheader against York. Across both games, the Lions were only able to score one run, with the first game ending at 10-1 in favour of the Mustangs, and game two ending with a 7-0 purple and white victory.
Contini was back in the circle on Sunday, allowing just two hits while striking out six. Offensively, Cress and Wells each delivered three RBIs, while Balas added another two. Cunningham scored three runs throughout the game, with Reynolds adding two more.
Jacques got the win in the circle for game two, and brought her season strikeout total to 100. Murray led at the dish with four hits – including a home run. Parno and
Lauren Sovereign picked up two hits each while Balas added another two RBIs.
Next up are double dips this weekend that will see the Mustangs both host all weekend. Ryerson comes to Stronach Park on Friday for matchups at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m., while Saturday will see Guelph take on the Mustangs at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. The final pairing of the week comes on Sunday, in a Senior Day contest with Toronto at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
