GUELPH, Ont. – Eighteen points from Julia Schell led the U SPORTS No. 3 Guelph Gryphons to a 65-0 win over the Western Mustangs on Saturday afternoon at Varsity Field.
The loss moves the Mustangs to 0-3 on the year and sets the stage for a key matchup with the York Lions next Friday in the Mustangs regular season finale. Guelph stays undefeated and now holds a 3-0 record, and they'll meet another 3-0 team in the McMaster Marauders next week to close out the regular season.
Guelph didn't wait long to open the scoring on Saturday, scoring three tries with three successful converts in the first 15 minutes to go up 21-0. The Gaels would add another four tries before the end of the half to take a 45-0 lead at the half on their way to a 65-0 win.
The Mustangs will now turn their attention to a crucial matchup against the York Lions on Friday, September 29. Game time is set for 7 p.m. at Alumni Field in London.
