Box Score WATERLOO, Ont. - First-year striker Katrina Giantsopolousnetted her sixth goal of her rookie season to help lead the Western women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over the Laurier Golden Hawks on Saturday afternoon in Waterloo, Ont.
With the win, the Mustangs remain the only undefeated team in the OUA and improve to 8-0-4 on the season to sit atop the OUA West division standings. The Golden Hawks' loss drops them to a 5-7-1 record, putting them in fifth place in the OUA West division.
Giantsopolous' goal came on behalf of an assist from second-year Giulia Geraci, giving her three assists on the season to help facilitate the Western offence.
Despite the close score differential, Western seemingly dominated the game for nearly the full 90 minutes. The Mustangs' strikers out-shot Laurier 14-4, while the Golden Hawks' goalie had herself an incredible game, saving 10 shots on goal before finally giving up the goal to Giantsopolous in the final 10 minutes of the match. The victory was Western's second of the regular season over Laurier, as they took down the Golden Hawks by a 2-0 margin earlier last month.
The Mustangs will be back in action this Friday, October 12, where they will take on the 2-5-5 Windsor Lancers in their first meeting of the season in Windsor, Ont. The game is scheduled to begin at 6:00 P.M. EST.
