Mustangs Men's Tennis repeats as OUA Champions

Toronto, ON - After 3 days of action at the Mayfair Club in Toronto, The Mustangs are coming with hardware from both the Men's & Women's tennis teams.

For the second straight year, the men won the conference banner with a 5-2 win over the Toronto Varsity Blues, while the Women's team lost to Toronto by the same 5-2 score, finishing second.

The banner win is the sixth in eight seasons for Westerns Men's team and 21st overall. Alex Day earned the player of the year award after the strong weekend for the Mustangs. On Sunday, he won his doubles match and then cruised in straight sets in his singles match while playing out of the top spot.

The men's final played out with the Mustangs taking the one point from doubles and then four of the six singles matches. In addition to Day, Matthew Oliver, Matt Erdman, and Connor Smith took their matches to clinch the trophy for Western.

Day and Mark Jensen were named first-team all-stars for their effort at the event.

On the women's side, after blanking York by a 7-0 score on Saturday the Mustangs faced off against a tough Toronto squad. Camille Duggal was impressive picking up a point in the double match alongside Angela Chen. Duggal then beat Mara Stroe (6-0, 7-5).

Duggal and Sophie Bui were named first-team all-stars.

 Cam Cross & Anthony Galvenic were named Coaches of the Year for their work with the men's team.
