Guelph, ON - The Mustangs softball team is provincial champions for a tenth straight year after a 10-1 over Ottawa on Sunday at the OIWFA Championships.
Western entered the tournament at the number 3 seed with a 12 win, 3 loss regular season record. Â
In their opening game on Saturday morning the Mustangs took on the #2 seed in the East, Ryerson. The Mustangs pounded out 10 hits in the game, and scored 6 runs in the 4
th inning on their way to a 11-4 victory over the Rams. Joscyline Cadwell started in the circle and got the win. Both Jessie Brown and Aimee Leduc also pitched for the purple & white. Claire Lavereau, Lauren Greco, Bella

Murray all had multiple hits for Western
 (Lavereau hit a home run and Greco picked up a triple). Â
Western then played Brock on Saturday afternoon. This was a pressure situation for the Mustangs as the Badgers had beaten them in both games of a doubleheader on Sept 22. The game was a tight pitcher's dual between Western ace, Aimee Leduc and Brock's, Taylor Punter. Western scored in the third inning on a double by Bella Kennedy driving in Meg Moore who had led off the inning with a double and went on to win 1-0. Leduc pitched a complete game, recording 7 strike outs and zero walks. Â
With a pair of wins Western was winners side of the bracket on the final day. Their first game saw them take on the other undefeated team in the tournament, the UOttawa Gee Gees. Western got off to a good start by scoring in the first inning when Murray singled, driving in Greco who had tripled. The Mustangs kept it going as they added 2 more runs in the second inning when Claire Lavereau tripled, scoring Kyra Shewchuk and Moore who had both singled ahead of her. Western smacked out 11 hits in total on the game and picked up the 5-1 win to send them to the finals. Â
In the championship game, the Mustangs met uOttawa again after they who defeated McMaster. Western showed incredible poise in the matchup. Aimee Leduc struck out 7 and allowed only 3 hits while the Mustangs offence pounded out 10 hits on their way to a 7-1 victory.. Meg
Parno had a single and two triples, Kennedy had 2 singles and a triple, and Murray, with two singles led the team offensively

Leduc and Murray were selected as Ontario All-Stars and Parno was the Championship MVP.Â
The Mustangs season has one more stop, that is this coming weekend in the Canadian Championship in Kitchener starting Friday. The tournament features the top 8 teams in Canada (Western, Laurier and Brock from the East; Calgary, Regina, and Saskatchewan from the West, and the top two Ontario Colleges (Durham and Fanshawe).
