Brampton, ON - The Mustangs Softball team claimed their 11th consecutive and 13th total OIWFA Championships this weekend.

"All Championships are awesome but this one is especially so because it was accomplished with a large group of newcomers," said Mustangs Head Coach Pete Lemon "Our performance over the past few weeks has been nothing short of dominant. Further and importantly they have become a very close group of friends."

The weekend started Friday with a 10-0 win over the Brock Badgers at Drumbo Park in the West Regional Final game which booked the Mustangs their ticket into Sunday's medal round.

"I felt very locked in this weekend! I struggled a little bit hitting my spots early on Saturday, but I got that figured out early. Going into Sunday," said Mustangs pitcher Aimee Leduc. "I felt really good, not only just myself, but I felt really good about the team I had behind me."

On Sunday the Mustangs started the day in the semi-finals blanking the Toronto Varsity Blues 3-0 which sent them to the gold medal game.

In the championship game, Western took on the Ottawa Gee-Gees. After getting a single run in the first inning, Western would put up 6 runs in the second inning to pad a large lead. After adding another single run in the third inning, the Gee-Gee's would get a pair of runs in the top of the fourth inning. In the bottom of the fourth, the Mustangs scored two runs early and then Ainsleigh Wedow stepped up and hit a towering shot that one-hopped the left-field fence to score two more runs and that capped the ten-run mercy and secured the victory for Western by a 12-2 final.

Mustangs pitcher Aimee Leduc was named tournament MVP after getting a pair of wins, giving up only 6 hits. "I honestly wasn't expecting it! It really caught me really off guard! It meant alot to me to win MVP," said Leduc "It just makes me feel proud of how hard I've worked, but I definitely wouldn't as confident of a pitcher without having the defence that I have behind me!"

"Aimee's performance was impressive indeed (she only allowed 2 runs over 3 games in the tournament and both were unearned." said Lemon of his pitchers performance "This is especially noteworthy as two of the schools we played had highly touted pitchers with experience south of the border who were supposed to end our Championship run but it did not happen. Aimee was a huge part of it!"
