London, ON – With Saturday's 2022 Canada Life Vanier Cup Game fast approaching, the Host Organizing Committee have released details pertaining to the weekend's festivities. A multitude of football related events will be hosted in London in addition to the game.
Things will kick off on Thursday with the participating Teams Media Conference and the U SPORTS All-Canadian Banquet presented by Club House. National Award Winners for Football will be announced at the banquet on Thursday. Thursday will also mark the first Football Ontario Mega Clinic, which will be hosted throughout the weekend. Friday will feature the Ontario Canadian Collegiate Women's Flag Showcase alongside the Ontario Hall of Fame Induction Announcement.
In addition to the big game, Saturday is the backdrop for the 2022 Canada Life Vanier Cup Fan Fest, which has free admission. Anyone in town is welcome to attend. You do NOT have to have tickets to the game. The Fan Fest will be hosted in the Huron Flats parking lot outside Western Alumni Stadium prior to kick-off and will feature music, games, food trucks, and many notable athletes attending to do signings and Q&A appearances with host Mike Stubbs, including (but not limited to): In addition, this free event at Huron Flats parking lot, just outside Western Alumni Stadium will feature food trucks, giveaways, activities, musical performances and more. Full schedule available below.
Mike Stubbs will host the Fan Fest, with guests including Dylan Giffen and Deionte Knight, recent 2022 CFL Grey Cup Champions with the Toronto Argos, Olympic Gold Medalist Damian Warner,, Andy Fantuz, Alysha Newman, Craig Butler, Lirim Hajrullau, Marc Liegghio, Chris Merchant, and halftime show performer Delaney Jane. Attendees will have the opportunity to hear stories, get autographs and take pictures. The Fan Fest will kick-off at 9am and will run until 12:45pm, with game-time set for 1pm. A full schedule and appearance list can be found below.
Delaney Jane, Saturday's halftime show performer, and who will be making an appearance at the Vanier Fan Fest, is no stranger to the London scene. Having grown up in the Kitchener-Waterloo region, the LA-based singer is excited to return to her roots.
"When I get to come home, I get to see the one's I love the most, and as distance gets farther, we realize how important our core people are," said Jane on coming back to Ontario. "When I was younger, I had a best friend who went to Western, but it's been a long time since I've been to London and this might be the first time I perform my solo music there."
And not only will it mark the first time performing as a solo artist in the Forest City, but it will also be Jane's first halftime performance in general.
"I'm super excited and getting to have the freedom to really make my moment in 15 minutes is so exciting," said Jane. "Being me, I want everything that I want and I'm obviously time constricted. I'm going to be going through fine details tomorrow. I'm also working with a talented visual artist to create special visuals for this show. I wanted this show to have the songs people are going to know and sing to but also know it's less about showcasing my new music and more about creating the most hype and energy. There's going to be a build and a peak at the end."
And while Jane is focused on building connection through her performance, the Vanier Fan Fest before the game and her halftime show is another key moment for the artist to connect with fans and share her story.
"Anyone who has been to one of my shows knows that I love to come out in the crowd and hug and meet as many people as possible," said Jane. "It's always been about connecting with anyone touched by or who loves my music."
After the Fan Fest, Jane will hit the stage during half-time of the 2022 Canada Life Vanier Cup, where the Saskatchewan Huskies will take on the Laval Rouge et Or, the latter of which knocked out Western last week to book their ticket to the U SPORTS Championship.
"I didn't see the [Laval vs Western] game, but knowing Western and the people of London, they're still going to come out and have an amazing time at this game and show," said Jane. "At the end of the day, it comes down to the community created through sports. Sports are here to bring people together. I feel like we are all going to be celebrating together."
Jane's appearance at the Fan Fest will conclude a spectacular list of appearances by notable Canadian athletes including a gold medal winning Olympic athlete and a couple of Toronto Argonaut Grey Cup winners from last weekend, as well as numerous other appearances. A full Fan Fest schedule and list of appearance times is listed below. All Fan Fest events are free admission, so the community is welcome to come down to Western Alumni Stadium, Huron Flats - to be a part of this exciting event.
