London, ON - Today's team recognition as part of the 2022 Mustangs Season of Celebration is the Mustangs Golf Teams.
The 2021 season saw plenty of new faces on the links for the Mustangs after a 2 year break from competition.
The Women's team had an impressive season starting with a win at the season opening event at the St. Thomas Golf & Country Club hosted by Western. The Mustangs would take the top spot by a team total of 14 shots. This success would continue through the remainder of the season and into the OUA Championship which was held at Cherry Downs Golf Club in Pickering, ON.
Western had three of the top seven individual scores and won the team title by 11 strokes. Lexie McKay led the Mustangs with an individual silver medal performance, posting a +4 score. This was the first OUA Championship win for the women's golf team since 2008. Head Coach Charles Fitzsimmons was also named OUA Coach of the Year.
The women's team MVP for the season was Lexie McKay
On the men's team, they saw a big turnover in their roster as several of the veterans from previous seasons have since graduated from the program. That didn't mean the team struggled though as they picked up a 1st place team finish at Guelph Lakes G&CC when they shot a 4 over par team total of 289. Griffin Nogas shot a four under par 67, Western won by three shots over Waterloo (293) and four shots over McMaster (294).
The men's team MVP for the season was Ewan Kelly.
