London, ON - The full squad of Western Mustangs kicked off the new year with a strong showing at the 39th Annual Don Wright Team Challenge.

The 2nd-ranked women's team captured ten golds, seven silvers, and eight bronzes.
Vivian Ogor had another strong performance in the 60m dash winning the gold with a time of 7.69, while Olivia Reevie earned the silver with a time of 7.99.Â
Tieghan Wallace won gold in a personal best time of 40.26 in the 300m moving her into the number 9 spot in the country.Â
Favour Okpali led the way in the 600m dash also earning gold with a time of 1:34.60 and is currently ranked 2nd in the country. Â
Sophie Coutts ran to victory in the 1500m in 4:31.98 moving her into 7
th in the country.

Other notable performances include Rachel Watson earning gold in the 60m hurdles with a personal best of 8.85 with Audrey Goddard earning silver with a time of 8.91. Olivia Walker also took gold in the pole vault leaping over 3.55m. Liv Sands captured gold in the shot put with a heave of 12.91m. Hannah Jodoin captured gold in triple jump with her 3
rd best distance ever in 11.93m and Tara Johannink jumped 1.58m to take gold in the high jump.
 The 5th-ranked men's team also enjoyed some strong performances with eight golds, eight silvers, and five bronzes.
Seth Edwards led the way with an outstanding performance in the shot put with a throw of 15.79m. This heave hits the U SPORT auto qualifying standard, earning Edwards a spot at the U SPORTS championships in Saskatoon and ranking him 4th in the nation.
"I'm really blessed to have qualified this early," Says Edwards. "But I feel like I'm just scraping the surface of what I can accomplish this year".
Matt Indome had a strong performance in the long jump capturing gold with a leap of 6.92m. This jump is a current season best and moves Indome to 10th in the country.
Erik Orhling earned gold in the 1500m run with a time of 3.53.40. Orhling is currently ranked 2nd in the country.

Robbie Menzies, started off the new year where he left off with a strong run in the 300m winning in a time of 35.26.
First year standout jumper, Zach Courtney jumped over 1.97m in the high jump earning gold and a new personal best. This leap ranks Courtney 10th in the country.
The Mustangs continue to look ahead as they travel down south to Michigan this weekend to compete at the Hillsdale Wide Track Classic.
