Waterloo, ON - The Mustangs Women's Cross Country team captured their first OUA Championship since 1998 today after a dominating performance at the Columbia Ice Fields at Waterloo.

"It feels amazing to get our first team win in 25 years! We have an amazing group of girls and the most supportive coaches who have made this result possible." said Mustangs top individual finisher Chloe Coutts "This is the deepest team we have had! We have an amazing training group and this result is a reflection of all the hard work we have put in together."

The Mustangs finished 3rd through 7th in individual scoring including Coutts finishing in 3rd place with a final time of 29:08.8. As a team Western finished with a team score of 25 points which was 45 points ahead of the 2nd place finishing Guelph who had 70.

"Just a phenomenal team race." said Mustangs Head Coach Guy Schultz "They worked together and executed the plan perfectly. This team has worked so hard for this and the coaching staff couldn't be more proud."

All of the Mustangs scoring athletes finished as First Team OUA All-Stars.

"The race was fun today! It went out slowly and was very windy out there." said Coutts "All the mustangs were near the front and helped dictate the pace. For me, I was leading the entire race until 50m to go, which was disappointing as I didn't know people were coming up on me. The disappoint of my finish only motivates me more for U SPORTS."

The Mustangs now look forward to hosting the U SPORTS Cross Country Championship in two weeks on home turf at Thames Valley Golf Course.
