Sherbrooke, QC – The Mustangs Cross Country team battled a very tough course at the 2025 U SPORTS Championship on Saturday.
The Women's team finished 6th in team standings with their top 5 scoring finishers coming in 9th, 10th, 26th, 63rd & 86th. The Men's team was 9th overall with their top 5 finishers coming in 23rd, 31st, 39th, 79th & 87th.
The top individual finisher for the women's side was Maria Linton, coming in 9th place at 28:50 just ahead of teammate Sophie Coutts who finished in 28:59.
"I'm very happy with my race! I feel I pushed myself the hardest I could have," said Linton. "During the race, when things got tough, I reminded myself I am racing for my team, not for myself. And I believe that really pushed me the extra mile!"
Coutts on the other hand felt frustrated with the 10
th place finish.
"The course was really challenging with a lot of hills!" said Coutts. "I'm pretty disappointed with the result and my season as a whole. But I'm proud that I fought hard and still managed to earn All-Canadian status despite some setbacks this season!"
Linton and Coutts are Second Team All-Canadians as a result of their individual finish.
On the Men's side, Liam Smith finished 23
rd with a final time of 25:23. Robin Faricier finished in 25:38 which was 34
th overall and Satveer Gill was 42
nd at 25:46.
"The Mustang men fought hard on a tough course, finishing a strong 9
th in the country," said Mustangs Head Coach Guy Schultz. " Liam led the way with a blistering kick to finish. With a goal to finish in the top ten, the men were happy with such a young team coming back next year."
