London, ON - The Western Mustangs Athletes of the Week powered by Under Armour for the week ending January 7, 2024 are Brooke Vaccari from Women's Hockey & MacKeely Shantz from Women's Basketball.

Vaccari registered a shutout in the Mustangs 1-0 OT win over the Windsor Lancers on Saturday night. She registered 20 saves in the win including a couple of highlight reel stops to keep Western in the game. The win also pushed the Mustangs back to the .500 mark at 8-8 in the highly competitive Western Conference.

Shantz had a pair of outstanding performances as the Mustangs returned to action this weekend. She started the weekend with a 32 point performance against Laurier where she also registered 8 rebounds and 4 steals, Shantz followed that up with 27 points and 7 rebounds against Waterloo in the Mustangs 70-64 win over the Warriors.
