Mustangs Women's Cross Country are Back-to-Back OUA Champions

North Bay, ON – The Mustangs Women's Cross Country team is back-to-back OUA Champions after a dominant performance at the 2024 OUA Cross Country Championship this weekend in North Bay.

The Women's team showcased exactly why they are ranked #1 in Canada for most of this season as they finished 2nd, 3rd, 5th,6th & 7th in their scoring positions, which counted for 23 scoring points. The 2nd place team, the Queen's Gaels had a team points total of 65.

"What a team performance! They put themselves in the lead pack and just kept supporting each other to stay in the hunt." said Mustangs Head Coach Guy Schultz "When the race broke open in the last 2k, they all responded and stormed home with all 5 scorers being among the First Team OUA All -Stars,"

Ashley Maguire finished with the silver medal individually with her final time of 28:51.5, she was followed almost immediately by teammate Olivia Roussel, who finished at 28:51.7, which gave her the bronze medal.

On the men's side, the Mustangs finished in 4th place in the team standings. Western's scoring athletes finished 10th, 16th, 17th, 22nd & 26th.

The Mustangs top individual finisher was Ben Fox who ran a final time of 25:12.8.

"Really proud of the guys this season. A few guys were fighting a cold this week, but they went for it." said Schultz "They were in a good spot through 8k but they just ran out of gas on the last set of hills."
