Mustangs battle Warriors in weekend doubleheader

London, ON - The Mustangs battled with the OUA West top ranked Waterloo Warriors this weekend in a pair of matchups.

Saturday Oct 4:

The Western Mustangs started off the weekend against Waterloo on home turf. The squad fought hard from the first whistle, playing a very back and forth game. 


Defensively, the Mustangs worked to contain the Warriors' attack, with several defensive corners stopped by Mackenzie Galfman, and defenders Ella Delichte and Sarah Robertson. Offensively, the Mustangs showed flashes of skill, managing to score two goals. Charlotte Craigg opened the scoring with a powerful stroke shot, and Jasalyn Jolly added a second off a wonderful short corner sequence, beautifully set up by a precise hit from Tasha Stanford.

A standout performance came from Sidney Evans, who earned game MVP for her hustle in the center midfield, helping control possession and drive the team forward.

Despite the team's effort and these bright moments, the game ended in a 5-2 loss for Western. While the result was tough, the Mustangs' determination and moments of strong play in all four quarters of the game. 

Sunday Oct 5:

The Western Mustangs fell 4-0 to the Waterloo Warriors in a tough matchup on Sunday. Western fought hard, keeping the score low for much of the game, showing strong grit and determination on the field, while Waterloo pushed hard to create consistent scoring chances.

In a hard-fought matchup between the Waterloo Warriors and Western Mustangs, both teams showed moments of strong play and determination. The game was competitive throughout, with Western displaying discipline, energy, and teamwork, especially throughout the defensive line.

Jasalyn Jolly earned the MVP title because of her consistent hard work, determination, and commitment to improving both on and off the field. Her success came from her relentless effort in practice, her focus on teamwork, and her ability to perform under pressure.

Despite the loss, Western demonstrated depth across their roster and a solid foundation to build on for future games. The Mustangs have left the field with valuable takeaways as they prepare for the next stretch of the season.

NEXT GAMES
The Mustangs have two weekends remaining in their regular season, starting with a pair of road games this weekend against Guelph and McMaster. Western takes on Guelph on Saturday (Oct. 11) at 2:00pm and then the Marauders on Sunday (Oct. 12) for a 1:00pm start.
