Toronto, ON - The Mustangs Wrestling program turned heads at the Pat Bolger Open hosted by TMU on Sunday, with the women's team delivering a dominant performance to finish first overall in the team standings. Western also placed second in the combined overall team standings, showcasing depth across both squads.
Cyenna Trotman continued her remarkable season, earning her third consecutive gold medal. She went 3-0 on the day, winning each match by technical superiority, scoring 30 points while allowing none. "Cyenna has been wrestling with incredible focus and consistency this season. To dominate three straight tournaments shows just how prepared and determined she is," said Assistant Coach Steven Takahashi.
Jonelle Clarke also captured her third gold of the season, dominating the 65kg division with three straight pins. "Jonelle continues to impress with her strength and mat awareness. She's been a leader for our women's team this season, setting the tone with her intensity and focus. What stands out most is her consistency — she's showing up every tournament ready to perform, and that reliability is a huge asset for our program." said Assistant Coach Madi Parks.
Second-year wrestler Myah Kyle earned gold with a perfect 3-0 record, including two pins and an 11-0 technical superiority victory. "Myah's growth from her first year to now has been remarkable. She wrestled with confidence, stayed aggressive, and showed she can finish matches in multiple ways," said Head Coach Scott Proctor.
Two other Mustang women reached the podium, with Bahar Zali and Elizabeth Paguirigan earning bronze medals. Breanna Trudgeron and Emmanuela Okeke finished fourth, while Rachelle Mao, Allison Accetta, and Yukta Joshi placed sixth.
On the men's side, Lukas Geske led the charge, winning his second gold medal of the season and improving his record to 9-0. Geske dominated all four matches by technical superiority, outscoring his opponents 44-2. "Lukas is wrestling at an elite level right now. His ability to control matches and score points is outstanding. He's undefeated for a reason — he's putting in the work every day and it's showing on the mat," said Proctor.
Zachary Ortencio added a bronze medal, while first-year wrestler Osatohanmwen Edokpayi placed fifth.
The Mustangs will have the upcoming weekend off before competing at the University of Toronto Open on Saturday, November 29. Western will then host the Western High School Invitational on Sunday, November 30 at Alumni Hall, welcoming the next generation of wrestlers to campus.
