Toronto, ON - The Western Mustangs wrestling teams wrapped up their first term in style at the University of Toronto Open on Saturday. The women's team claimed first place in the team standings, while the men finished second, giving Western an overall second-place finish in combined standings.

The women were led by two gold-medal performances. Jonelle Clarke continued her dominant season, earning her fourth gold medal by going 3-0 on the day. Clarke recorded two technical superiority wins with scores of 13-0 and 10-0, and capped off her run with a pin.

Head coach Scott Proctor said the team's effort stood out: "Jonelle and Jennifer really set the tone for the women's team today. It was great to see their hard work pay off, and the whole group wrestled with confidence."

Joining Clarke at the top of the podium was Jennifer Nwamadi, who went 2-0, winning both matches by 10-0 scores. The women's team added four more medals: first-year wrestler Emmanuela Okeke claimed silver, while Allison Accetta and Myah Kyle each earned bronze.

Assistant coach Madi Parks praised the athletes: "I'm proud of how our athletes performed. Emmanuela, Allison, and Myah all battled hard and earned their medals. It was a solid day for the women overall."

On the men's side, first-year standout Ryan Dahcha led the charge, winning gold in the 68 kg division. Dahcha posted a perfect 4-0 record, not surrendering a single point throughout the day. Earlier this season, Dahcha represented Western and Canada at the U23 World Championships, showcasing his elite talent on the international stage.

Proctor highlighted Dahcha's performance and the team's depth: "Ryan had an outstanding tournament, and the rest of the guys followed up with strong efforts. Zach, Charlie, and Luca all wrestled well to earn their silver medals."

This tournament marked the final competition of the first term for the Mustangs. Proctor reflected on the team's progress, saying: "We'll use December to keep building and make sure we're ready to pick up right where we left off in January."
