Seth Edwards - Track & Field
2025 Mustangs Purple Blanket Recipient

Seth came to Western from the Barbados in the Fall of 2019 with plans to be a heptathlete but after an early injury he moved to the throws team.

In 2019/2020 Seth began his season at 13 .85m and finished with a pb of 14.76m. Leaving him just shy of qualifying for U SPORTS. While understanding how successful this season was took some convincing, Seth learned a lot and reevaluated and set new goals that included qualifying for U SPORTS.

Returning to action in the fall of 2021, opening the season with a pb of 14.83m and he won his first OUA medal with a throw of 15.42m and finishing the season with a trip to U SPORTS in St. John's where he pb'd with 15.97m to finish 4th.

Fall 2022 brought new goals. Seth set new plans to not only qualify for U SPORTS in Saskatoon, but to be a medal threat. In the field, he opened his pain free season with 15.26m and after a set back at OUA's, he came to Saskatoon with a fresh outlook and pb'd at U SPORTS in dramatic fashion with 16.23m finishing 5th (16 cm away from 3rd).

2023 brought a new role for Seth within the team leadership both on and off the field of play. He began his season with 15.61m and worked at climbing the Western All-Time Top 10 list finishing the year as the number 2 male thrower in Western history with his silver medal winning throw of 17.1 lm at OUA's and moving on to Winnipeg to win his first U SPORTS medal, a bronze.

This season, as Team Captain Seth planned for nothing other than rewriting the record book. For his fifth consecutive season, he improved his opening throw of the season to 15 .97m and to this point has achieved his first goal of breaking the Western record which has stood since 2012 with a throw of 17.62m. Seth finished his final season in purple and white with a silver medal at the OUA Championship with his third attempt at 17.62m. At the U SPORTS Championship he took a bronze medal in the Men's Shot Put. His best throw was 16.13m.

Congratulations Seth, the recipient of a Mustangs Purple Blanket.
