London, ON - The Western Mustangs Athletes of the Week for the week ending February 22 are Jackson Mackay & Liv Sands from Track & Field, Shona Branton & Riley Carswell from Swimming.

Jackson went into long jump ranked 6th at the 2026 OUA Track & Field Championship, yet captured gold with a clutch final round jump of 7.31m, and then went on to claim silver in pole vault with a lifetime best jump of 4.85m the next day. Heading into U SPORTS, Jackson is now ranked 3rd and 4th in these events respectively. Individually, he contributed 18 points to the total team score of 105 points, helping the men's team claim silver.

Liv continued her two season undefeated streak by claiming gold in shot put with 17.42m, adding another 29cm to her school record in the process. This won her the competition by nearly 4 meters. Liv also captured silver in weight throw. Liv scored a total of 18 points for the women's team, helping them capture silver.

Shona won two gold medals (50m Breaststroke & 100m Breaststroke) and one silver (200m Breaststroke) individually at the 2026 OUA Swimming Championship. She also was part of the gold medal winning 4x50m Medley Relay team and the silver medal winning 4x 100m relay. Branton was also recognized as a grand slam champion, winning four gold medals in the 50m Breaststroke in four seasons of competition.

Carswell won two silver medals (200 Free & 1500 Free) and one bronze medal (400 Free) at the OUA Swimming Championship. He was also named OUA Male Rookie of the Year.
