London, ON – The Mustangs Sports & Recreation department joins the entire sports community in mourning the passing of legendary local sportscaster Pete James.
James passed peacefully and was surrounded by family on February 4.
Nicknamed "The Godfather of Sports", James was the sports director at CFPL-TV for over 25 years and a morning sportscaster on 1290 CJBK radio for several years. A staunch supporter of all Mustangs teams, James once hosted a multi-year TV show titled "The Mustangs Report" where he would interview coaches and athletes from across the varsity sports department. He had a long-time connection with the Football team, including play-by-play and colour commentary duties. For years, he was the voice behind the Mustangs Football Wall of Champions induction videos.
"Pete James was a great supporter of the London sports community and Western football. He made such a big impact that we inducted him into our Wall of Champions as a builder. I personally always looked forward to our meetings or interviews. Greeting me with a big smile and "Freddy my man, how are you doing?" Pete was a true professional and set a standard for television broadcasters here in London," said Greg Marshall, Head Coach (Retired), Football.
A celebration of life is scheduled for next week.
Please join us in sending our deepest condolences to the family & friends at this extremely difficult time.
