Windsor, ON - The Mustangs Track and Field team delivered a strong performance over the two days at the Windsor Team Challenge, earning multiple podium finishes and U Sports auto-qualifying marks across both the track and field events.
On the first day of the competition, the women's 4x800m relay team had a standout performance, claiming second place in a time of 8:54.24, securing an auto qualifying standard. In the throws, the Mustangs made their presence known in the women's weight throw. Liv Sands earned a second place finish, and Molly Anderson followed closely behind with a third place finish and a throw of 17.91m, also meeting the auto-qualifying standard.
The Mustangs built momentum on day two with several podium performances on the track. Juliana Hendrikx led the distance group with a victory in the women's 1000m, while Findlay Weir captured first place in the women's 60m hurdles, with Rachel Watson adding a strong second-place finish. On the men's side, David Adeleye continued his consistency with a second place showing in the 60m hurdles, running a time of 6.91s.
In the long sprints, Taya Keast earned second place in the women's 300m, and Aaron Thompson followed suit in the men's 300m, finishing second overall with a time of 34.30 to secure a U SPORTS auto-qualifier. Middle-distance success continued as Kelly Mantel placed third in the women's 600m.
The Mustangs also produced strong results in the field events. Liv Sands dominated the women's shot put, claiming first place, while the men's shot put saw a double podium with Austin Riha finishing second and Sam Morrow taking third. In the jumps, Arman Shahazadeh captured first place in the men's long jump, with Zach Courtney adding a third-place finish. Additional podiums came from Chloe Knox, who won the women's triple jump, and Michele Horak, who earned third place in the women's high jump.
Overall, the Windsor Team Challenge showcased the Mustangs' depth and balance across events, with multiple podium finishes and key qualifying marks as the team continues to build toward the championship portion of the season. A portion of the team will head to Boston, MA next weekend to compete in the David Hemery Valentine Invite at Boston University while others will be back in Windsor for the Windsor Indoor Classic.
