Oakville, ON - Mustangs Track & Field Sprinter Aaron Thompson added another trophy to his outstanding career in purple and white as he was named the inaugural winner of the OUA Community Service Award on Wednesday night.
As part of the OUA Honour Awards Banquet Thompson was recognized for his efforts with the Track & Field team, while also pursuing his Doctor of Medicine at The Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry and also several community involvement initiatives.
"I'm so honoured to receive this award, especially in its first year, but I feel even more blessed and thankful to be surrounded by so many people who have believed in me and made it possible to achieve this." said Thompson. "Because of my incredible coaches, the Schulich Medicine staff, the Western Mustangs, and so many more investing their time to support me and my crazy schedule, I have been able to accomplish so much more as a Western Mustang than I could have ever expected. Without the support of others, I would not have had the opportunities to support those in my community. I couldn't be more thankful for the overwhelming support I have had here!"
Thompson is a three-time winner of the OUA Track & Field Community Service Award and is the back-to-back winner of the U SPORTS Track & Field Community Service Award.
"We are so proud of Aaron for not only what he does for our Track & Field program and his incredible leadership, but also for the example he sets as an exemplary student-athlete". said Christine Stapleton, Director of Sports & Recreation. "The many hours he devotes to his professional pursuit in medicine, while always offering to help others in their own academic pursuits or improvements on the track, he is so deserving of this honour".
At the 2026 Mustangs Awards, Thompson was named the winner of the G. Howard Ferguson Award, presented to a senior student in any faculty of the University who is considered to have attained the highest achievement during a university career encompassing athletics, scholarship and college life.
"We are extremely proud of Aaron and the impact he continues to have on the track and in the community, all while balancing the most demanding schedule out there." said Caroline Ehrhardt, Head Coach of Mustangs Track & Field. "He is an incredibly humble and selfless person and it is wonderful to see him continue to be recognized".
