London, ON - Western's prestigious Purple Blankets are presented to the student athletes who, in the opinion of the Selection Committee, achieved superior distinction at the Provincial/National level of competition as representatives of Western.

Brian Garrity of the Mustangs Football team is a 2026 recipient of this honour.



Through his career Brian showed grace under pressure with no moment being too big for him. In four Yates Cup games and a Vanier Cup game, Brian was a perfect 12 for 12 on his field goals. Brian's earned OUA all-star honours in 2021 and 2023 as a second team and first team all-star, respectively.

A marquee moment in Garrity's Mustangs career came in the 203 Yates Cup when he was a perfect 6 for 6 on field goals and was named the winner of the Dalt White Trophy as Yates Cup MVP, becoming the first kicker to be given the award.

In a full circle moment, in Brian's last season of eligibility, he passed Marc Liegghio to hold the record for most points in a career as a Western Mustang.

Brian's composure and consistency over his five years of eligibility helped cement him in the record books of Western football.
