FEMALE: Liz Sera, Wrestling (Third Year, Social Sciences, Winnipeg)
Liz Sera won gold in the 59-kg weight class, while Lesley McCallum won silver at 55 kg and rookie Larissa D'Alleva won bronze at 67 kg.
Sera, a third-year social sciences student, won two tough matches that both went to tiebreaking third rounds. She defeated Natascha Chong of Brock (2-3, 1-1, 7-0) in the final and defeated Aislynn Torfason of Lakehead, the second-place finisher at the 2009 junior nationals (1-0, 0-1, 1-0).
A two-sport athlete who also played rugby in the fall for the Mustangs, the Winnipeg natives is having a strong season after placing third at the 2009 OUA Championships in the 59-kg class. This is her second gold-medal finish of the season after winning the Greater Toronto Open on Nov. 14, 2009.
