Pair of losses forces Western to settle for shot at fifth at nationals

Nov. 6: Lethbridge 51 Western 3 / Concordia 10 Western 0

VANCOUVER, B.C. - A young Western Mustangs women's rugby team gained valuable experience for the future, but dropped both round-robin games on Nov. 6 on Day 1 of the 2009 CIS Women's Rugby Championships.

Western fell 51-3 to two-time defending national champion Lethbridge in their first game and immediately after faced Concordia, and ran out of gas, losing 10-0 to the Quebec champs.

The Mustangs got their three points on the day on a penalty goal by Martha Goodrow (Aurora, Ont.).

Western will play host UBC on Sunday Nov. 8 at 1 p.m. EST in the fifth-place game.
