LONDON, Ont. - The Western Mustangs men's basketball handled the Memorial Sea-hawks 82-59 Thursday night in pre-season action at Alumni Hall in London, Ont.
Western used strong defence and dominated in the paint and on the boards, outscoring Memorial 40-16 in the paint and 21-5 on second-chance points.
The Mustangs had a balanced scoring attack with four players getting to double digits in points. Ryan Barbeau lead Western with 18 points and added four assists and a couple of steals. Quinn Henderson added 15 points with some excellent three-point shooting and picked up 8 rebounds.

Western will continue their preseason on Saturday, Oct. 16 as they take on Algoma at 4 p.m. in Thames Hall.
The Mustangs were able to double up the Sea-Hawks 24-12 after the first quarter by using their height advantage and outscoring Memorial 12-2 in the paint.
Western held their double-digit lead for most of the second quarter playing tough defence and winning the rebound battle. The Mustangs' lead never dipped as low as 12 but the play of the half was not theirs.
A ridiculous jumping underhand buzzer-beater from Memorial's Ryan Brockerville counted for three points to cut Western's lead to 39-24 at the half.
The Mustangs extended their lead after the half to 20 behind some hot shooting. Western shot 13 of 18 in the third quarter and lead 67-47 entering the final frame.
Using their full bench, the fourth quarter pace slowed with the final outcome already being clear. The Mustangs continued to play good defence, limiting the Sea-Hawks to just 12 points in the frame to win 82-59.
