Scraper, Mustangs fall short 3-1, finish fourth in OUA

Oct. 31: Waterloo 3 Western 1

The Western Mustangs field hockey team suffered a heart-breaking defeat in the bronze medal game at the OUA Championships losing 3-1 to Waterloo. The top three teams at the OUA Championships advance to play at the CIS Championships.
The Waterloo Warriors got on the board first and held a 2-0 advantage at halftime. The Mustangs would respond and cut the lead in half on a penalty stroke by Megan Scraper. Waterloo would answer back just two minutes later to regain the two goal lead 3-1 in what would be the final score. Scraper would win player of the match for the Mustangs.
The Mustangs won their first playoff quarterfinal matchup against York 3-2 on Friday. Western fell to the top seeded, and eventual OUA Champion Guelph Gryphons 6-4 Saturday afternoon setting up their third place match with Waterloo.
Guelph, Toronto and Waterloo will now advance to the CIS Championships hosted in Guelph, Ont. on Nov. 4.
