THUNDER BAY Ont. - With a 17-5 2009-2010 record, the Western Mustangs Women’s basketball team ended their regular season tonight with an 84-51 loss to Lakehead at the CJ Sanders Fieldhouse. Although the Mustangs lost, they still have their secured second place position for the playoffs and are set to begin the OUA West Division semi-final Saturday Feb.27 at 1 p.m. at Alumni Hall.
The Mustangs were down 49-24 at half time as Lakehead dominated in every quarter outscoring the Mustangs 26-6 in the first quarter.
With her final game as a Mustang, fifth year player Amanda Anderson (Chatham, Ont.) has hit a personal milestone of 1,626 career total points moving her into second place in the OUA record books. She sits second behind Cassandra Carpenter (Laurentian University) who hold the first place position with 2,171. Anderson played 36 minutes netting 15 points along with Lauren Parkes (London, Ont.) who added 13, and Rebecca Moss (Waterloo, Ont.) who had 10 points on the night.
The Mustangs will begin their playoff journey a week from today, Feb. 27 at 1 p.m. at Alumni Hall. The Mustangs will wait to see who their opponent will be between Lakehead and Laurier who play on Feb. 24 in Thunder Bay, Ont.
