WATERLOO, Ont. - The Western Mustangs defeated the Laurier Golden Hawks 76-0 this past Sunday Sept. 12 on Laurier’s home pitch.
Western showed a great deal of experience and knowledge for the game, despite having such a young team. The Mustangs have just seven veterans with a total of 20 players on the roster.
The lead scorer on the pitch was Arielle Dubissette-Borrice of Toronto showed great leadership and skill, scoring four tries, which strongly contributed Western being able to follow the gameplan and systems effectively.
By the end of the first half, fresh legs were needed out on the pitch. Western was able to make drastic substitutions confidently due a strong skill level throughout the team, allowing all 20 players on the roster to enjoy significant playing time.
Although changes were made to the lineup through the course of the game, the flow and pace of the game remained constant.
Despite a team consisting of a total of 21 rookies, the bar was set high this past weekend and throughout training camp due to their high level of skill and learning capabilities.
These traits throughout the team will be critical to the success of the Western women’s rugby team and their development throughout the season and for years to come.
