Tate scores pair as Western goes 1-2 on opening weekend

Sept. 18: Toronto 2 Western 1, Western 4 Waterloo 2 / Sept. 19: Guelph 4 Western 1

LONDON, Ont. - The Western Mustangs posted a 1-2 record in their opening weekend of OUA regular season play at TD Waterhouse Stadium on the weekend, Sept. 18-19.

On Saturday, Western lost 2-1 to the Toronto Varsity Blues. Katelyn Roganowicz scored to tied the game at the 20th minute on a penalty corner, but Alex Thicke netted the game winner for the Blues four minutes later. Ally Evanyshn scored the other Toronto goal.

The Mustangs avenged their morning loss by defeating Waterloo 4-2. Waterloo opened the scoring on a Kara Mono goal just 11 minutes in, but Western scored four unanswered goals 12 minutes apart to go up 4-1 from Anne Wozney, Jayne Clarke, Elsbeth Tate and Megan Scraper.

On Sunday, the Mustangs surrendered four unanswered goals in a 4-1 loss to Guelph. Tate scored the lone Western goal off a penalty corner in the second half.

Next, Western travels to play Queen's and Carleton in Ottawa Sept. 25 and 26.
