Young Mustangs have successful weekend in nation's capital

Sept. 25: Western 7 Carleton 1 / Sept. 26: Western 4 Queen's 1

The Western Mustangs field hockey team completed a successful weekend in the nation's capital beating the Carleton Ravens on Sept. 25 and the Queen's Gaels on Sept. 26 in Ottawa. 

The Mustangs beat the host Ravens 7-1 on Saturday and disposed of Queen's 4-1 on Sunday afternoon.

Rookie Alexandra Nelson of Erin, Ont., provided the offensive spark scoring three goals and assisting on two others. Megan Scraper of West Vancouver added two goals and two assists.

 (Richmond, B.C.) and Taylor Klimosko (Calgary) each netted one goal apiece. Julia DiGravio, of Waterloo, Ont., got the win in net, providing some solid goaltending for the Mustangs.

In the Mustangs' 4-1 victory over the Gaels it was Tate who opened the scoring with Katelynn Roganowicz (Burlington, Ont.) adding the second goal for Western. Safia Mohamed (Vancouver) and Madeleine Wootton (Plattsville, Ont.) also got in on the scoring for the Mustangs. Digravio got the win in goal for the Mustangs.

With the win the Mustangs are now above .500 on the year, tied for third place in the OUA at 3-2. The Mustangs will be in Guelph, Ont. this weekend with three games on the schedule. They play York and McGill on Saturday, Oct. 2 and will look to defeat Carleton again on Sunday, Oct. 3.
