Final results from Canadian University Golf Championships: Chris Dickson named Coach of the Year

The final day of the Canadian University/College Golf Championships featured strong rounds from members of the Mustangs men's and women's golf teams, and a major award as women's coach Chris Dickson was named Canadian National Coach of the Year.

On the men's side the team finished in seventh place, one shot out of sixth, and two out of fifth. The Laval Rouge et Or captured the championshp with a ten-stroke victory over second place Waterloo.

The Western men were lead on the final round by Michael Hastings who shot an even par 71, his best round of the week. Traynor Turkiewicz turned in another strong round, finishing up with a three-over 74, and despite battling injuries all week Charles Fitzsimmons earned a 75 on the day, tying his tournament best from the day before. Rounding out the scores for the men's team were Cole Fulton with 76 and Harris Bundy with 79. Bundy was the Mustang highest on the individual leaderboard, finishing the event tied for 21st.

The Mustang women were one of only six teams to make the cut for the final day of competition after strong play in round three. The women's squad finished the event in sixth place, behind Laval. The UBC Thunderbirds won their fourth consecutive Canadian championship finishing 13 shots ahead of second place University of Victoria.

Jessie Mercer posted Western's best score of the day for the third time, shooting an 83, to end the tournament in 15th, highest of any Mustangs golfer. Amy Williams was just behind Mercer, carding an 84 for the round. Lauren Iantomasi posted an 88, while Wesley Janzen scored a 93 to end the tournament.

Next year's Canadian University/College Golf Championship will be held May 27-31 in Quebec.
