Two second half goals led the second seed Guelph Gryphons to a 2-0 victory over the Western Mustangs field hockey team on Saturday afternoon at the OUA Championship.
Â
The Mustangs will now play the top seed Toronto Varsity Blues, who were upset by Waterloo in the day's other semi-final, for the OUA Bronze Medal tomorrow morning at 10:00 a.m. Guelph will take on Waterloo for the OUA Championship at noon, although by making the finals both teams have earned a berth in next week's CIS Championship.
Â
Saturday's game remained scoreless for the entire first half and well into the second, until Guelph's Daniela Jelec broke the deadlock with a goal in the 45th minute.
Â
The Gryphons began to take control following Jelec's goal with numerous scoring chances, finally getting the insurance marker just before the end of the game, in the 69th minute, by Allison Chute.
Â
Western now will turn its attention to Sunday morning's bronze medal game as they get set to face the Varsity Blues. Game time is set for 10:00 a.m. at York Stadium.
