Varsity Blues defeat Mustangs in OUA Bronze Medal game

A goal from Lauren Sudac in the 25th minute proved to be the game winner, helping the Toronto Varsity Blues defeat the Western Mustangs field hockey team in the Bronze Medal Game at the OUA Championships on Sunday morning at York Stadium.

Toronto opened the scoring only six minutes into the game with a goal from Emma Stairs to take an early 1-0 lead. The Mustangs fired back at the 18-minute mark on a goal from OUA All-Star Megan Duffy to tie the game at 1-1. However, Sudac's goal at the 25-minute mark gave the Varsity Blues the lead with Alex Thicke adding another goal in the 52nd minute to give Toronto a 3-1 victory.

The Guelph Gryphons captured the gold medal, defeating the Waterloo Warriors 4-1 in the Championship Final. Both Guelph and Waterloo qualified for the CIS Championships being held by the University of Victoria from October 31 – November 3.
