MIAMI – The Miami Dolphins announced earlier today that they have signed former Mustangs player Vaughn Martin to a free agent contract. Martin joins the Dolphins after spending the past four seasons with the San Diego Chargers where he racked up 78 tackles (46 solo) in 48 games played.
“We are excited that Vaughn is a member of the Dolphins,” said Dolphins General Manager Jeff Ireland in a team release. “He is an athletic player that we feel will make a positive impact and bring depth to the defensive side of the ball.”
Martin played two seasons with the Mustangs before declaring for the 2009 NFL Draft where he became the first CIS underclassman in history to be selected when the Chargers took him in the fourth round, 113th overall. One of the few CIS players to ever be chosen in the NFL Draft, it was the second highest position draft position for a CIS player with only Queen’s Mike Schad going higher when the Los Angeles Rams selected him in the first round 23rd overall, in 1986.
