Twenty-three Mustangs set personal bests at Bob Vigars Season Opener

LONDON, Ont. - The Western Mustangs' track and field team continued their impressive start to the year at the Bob Vigars Season Opener at Thompson Arena on November 29th, 2014, with 23 Mustangs achieving personal bests at the meet.
 
Captain Robin Bone set a meet and arena record with a 4.04m height in the women's pole vault event, while Isoken Ogieva achieved CIS Automatic Standard in two events, winning both the 60mH running with a time of 8.12s and the high jump with a height of 2.03m.
 
The men's pentathlon was won by Anthony Dandie with 3603 points.  Dandie, a Master's in Education student, is competing for Western for the first time after a successful 4 years as a Windsor Lancer. Chris Robertson, a 5th year Mustang and co-captain, finished 2nd with a personal best score of 3576.  These performances would have been ranked 6th and 7th in the CIS last season. 
 
Dandie also jumped 7.09m in the long jump within the pentathlon competition.  He is one of four Mustangs over the 7m mark this season, joining Robbie Gallaugher, Riley Bell and Daniel Gayle. Each of these were impressive achievement this early in season, and all of these performances would be in last years CIS top 12.
 
Payam Saboni won the men's triple jump event with a personal best performance of 14.22m.  This is very impressive for an event he picked up this past summer.  His 14.22m distance would have ranked him 9th in the CIS last season.
 
Other first place notable performances include Sarah Clancy in the women's 300 meter dash with a time of 41.39s, Alysha Matthews in the women's 60-meter hurdles with a personal best time of 8.97s, Ali Baker in the women's high jump open with a height of 1.64m, Caroline Ehrhardt in the women's long jump with a distance of 5.74m, Kristen Gibson in women's triple jump at 11.40m, Brooke Hoxar in women's shot put with 13.09m, Brindley Jantzi with a personal best in the Women Weight Throw with 15.05m and Kaliegh Hole also with a personal best in the women's pentathlon with 3401 points.  On the men's side, Evan Porter finished first in the men's 300 meter dash (37.51) and Robbie Gallaugher came out on top in the men's long jump (7.08m).
 
Next up, the Mustangs track and field program will attend the Gord Ford Warm Weather Training Camp in Clearmont, Florida December 28 - January 4.
