Strong second half leads Warriors over the Mustangs in Waterloo

WATERLOO, Ont. – A strong second half helped lead the Waterloo Warriors to a 25-10 win over the Western Mustangs women's rugby team on Sunday afternoon at CIF Field.

With one game left in the regular season the Mustangs now hold a 2-2 record, while Waterloo sits a 2-1-1.

Playing in front of a reunion weekend crowd, the Warriors scored 20 points in the second half to secure the win on Sunday, despite a fast start from the Mustangs.

Breanne Nicholas opened the scoring early in the first half, recording a penalty goal to give the Mustangs a 3-0 lead. Megan Colwell struck back with for the Warriors in the 22nd minute to briefly take control of the scoreboard before Nikki Case responded with a try of her on off of a great run to give Western a 10-5 lead at the half.

Unfortunately for the purple and white those would be their final points of the day, as Waterloo scored 20 points in the final half to claim a 25-10 victory.

Nicholas and Case tied for the Mustangs team lead with five points each, while Colwell topped the Warriors score sheet with 10 points on the day.

The Mustangs will now turn their attention to their final game of the regular season when they travel to Kingston next Saturday for a matchup with the Queen's Gales.
