The Western Mustangs took on Guelph Gryphons and Waterloo Warriors this past week in a battle to get points, resulting in two tough losses.
The night of Wednesday October 7, the Mustangs traveled to Guelph, falling 9-0 to the Guelph Gryphons. The first half of the game challenged both teams' stamina in an even fight.
Western continuously played a defensivley focused game, holding Guelph off the scoreboard until the remaining two minutes in the first half. The Gryphons then managed to slip two goals past the Mustangs ending the half 2-0.
After regrouping, the Gryffons came back on the field determined to get the ball in the back of the net. The final half was evidently a product of Guelph testing Western's defensive skills as the Gyphons become victorious with a 9-0 win against the Mustangs.
The following day, the purple and white traveled to Waterloo to compete against the Warrior's at their home opener. Once again both teams kept their momentum up leading half time to be a 0-0 game.
The Stangs pressed the Warrior's midfield and defensive line, allowing the Mustangs opportunity to get on the scoreboard. Halfway through the final half, the Warriors buried their first goal against Mustangs goalkeeper Margret Yu.
Waterloo then quickly pressured the Western's midfield and defense allowing them to finish the game with a 3-0 victory.
The Mustangs currently reside in sixth place in OUA standings, with four games remaining on their schedule.
The purple and white are preparing this week to play against long time rivals the Queen's Gaels in Toronto on Sunday October 18 at 2:15 p.m.
