WATERLOO, Ont. – Proving that they've officially bounced back from an early season defeat from Guelph, the Mustangs picked up their second consecutive victory with a 46-14 win on Friday night against the Laurier Golden Hawks at University Stadium.
With the win, the Mustangs record sits at 3-1, while the Golden Hawks are at 2-2.
Nikki Case topped both sides of the scoresheet with 15 points from three tries, while
Andrea Bowra contributed 13 from one try and four converts.
The Mustangs were first up on the board, recording 29 points throughout the first half. Keeping up a strong defence, they were able to keep Laurier away from the in-goal area until the final minutes of the first half.
With just two minutes left Laurier broke through Western's defence to land their first try of the night, followed by a successful conversion.
Returning from the half leading the game 29-7, the Mustang momentum kept rolling.
Ten minutes after active play resumed Case added her second try to the board. The Golden Hawks retaliated with a try and subsequent convert, but were unable to make a decisive comeback.
Western continued to fight to the last minute, managing to put up the final try of the night just minutes before the final whistle blew. At the end of the 80 minutes, Western had defeated the Golden Hawks 46-14.
The Mustangs now look to October 9 for their final regular season match. Taking on Brock at Alumni Field, the game is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
