LONDON, Ont. - The swimming team capped off the calendar year on a successful note, topping the University of Guelph, University of Waterloo, and Wilfrid Laurier University in 24 of 28 events at the Western Invitational in the Western Student Recreation Centre.

Notable first place finishes include Emily Williams and Alex Bartley, who won the 400 SC Meter IM, Hayley Hess and Peter Serles in the 100 SC Meter Butterfly and the 50 SC Meter Butterfly, as well as Kelly Hotta and Alex Paulins in the 200 SC Meter Freestyle. Furthermore, Piper Ferguson and Calum MacGregor placed first in the 200 SC Meter Backstroke while Keira Brazeau and Jake Silverthorn led the 400 SC Meter Freestyle.

The Mustangs also dominated in men's and women's 50 SC Meter Backstroke, as Charis Huddle and Gordon Barkwell took first place in very tight races. Hess and Matthew Fox, alongside many other Mustangs, dominated the 50 SC Meter Freestyle, while Huddle and Fox also finished first in the 100 SC Meter Freestyle. Courtney Fairholm and Barkwell came first in the competitive 100 SC Meter Backstroke. To end the day off, Sophie Cieplucha and Adam Mackenzie led the Mustangs in the 100 SC Meter Breaststroke.

The Mustangs now take a break over the holidays and prepare for their dual meet on January 9, 2016 as they host University of Toronto at the Western Student Recreation Centre. Followed by the Eastern Cup in Toronto on January 15-17, then Western will be host to the 2016 OUA Championships held on campus in the Rec centre February 11-13.
