Gryphons shut out Mustangs in Guelph

GUELPH, Ont. - After recording a big win in their 2015 debut, the Mustangs faced a clean sheet and an 88-0 loss at the Gryphon Rugby Pitch.

With the loss, Western holds a 1-1 record for the season while Guelph is undefeated and has outscored their opponents 213-0 in just games.

The Gryphons dominated the first half, putting up fifty points throughout the first forty minutes while preventing the Mustangs from landing a single try.

Guelph's Devon Stober, Bronwyn McCrone, Alexandra King, and Kendra Blackbourne each recorded a try to break onto the scoreboard early on in the first half, opening up the gates and ushering in a flood of red and gold points.

The Gryphons kept on rolling, bringing the score at half to 0-50.

The last forty minutes of the game reflected the first half, with the Mustangs still unable to break through the Guelph defence.

At the final whistle, Guelph had taken the game 0-88.

The Mustangs are back in action on September 26, when they take on the York Lions. Set to begin at 11 a.m., the game will take place in purple and white territory at Alumni Field.
