Mustangs win 33rd consecutive OUA Men's Squash Championship

Day Three Results

NIAGARA-ON-THE-LAKE, Ont. – The streak continues for the Western Mustangs men's squash team, as they won their 33rd consecutive OUA Men's Squash Championship earlier today at the White Oaks Resort and Spa.
 
With legendary Western coach Jack Fairs in attendance, the Mustangs continued the unprecedented streak that began during the 1983-84 season, as well as winning the 43rd men's title in university history. Western took the top spot with a perfect 6-0 record, followed by Toronto in second at 5-1 and Waterloo in third.
 
Western took third place in the women's championship, finishing with a 3-2 record. The Queen's Gaels won the title after going 5-0 on the weekend, while Toronto earned silver at 4-1.
 
The Mustangs men's team finished off the tournament on Sunday with a 4-2 win over the host Brock Badgers and a 6-0 victory against Queen's. Stefan Houbtchev, Farzin Habib Pour, Bryan Hill, and Pierce Masuhara each won their individual matches against the Badgers and then did the same against Queen's, with Nick Guest and Alex Seto also helping to complete the sweep of the Gaels.
 
On the women's side the purple and white finished the championship with a 6-0 win over Waterloo. Holly Delavigne, Michaela Khan, Nicola Crich, Karen Lam, Robyn Lewis, and Joanna Macleod each earned the win at their position, and following the tournament Delavigne was also named an OUA All-Star.


Day Two Results

The Western Mustangs men's squash team will enter Championship Sunday at White Oakes needing two team victories to capture their 33rd consecutive OUA Squash Championship dating back to 1983-84. 

Western's men's side won both of their games on Saturday, defeating McMaster and Toronto by 5-1 and 4-2 scores respectively. Now sitting at 4-0, the Mustangs will take on Queen's and the host Brock Badgers on Sunday as they attempt to continue their decades-long championship streak.
 
The Waterloo Warriors and Toronto Varsity Blues enter the final day with 3-1 records, tied for second place. 

The host Brock Badgers and McMaster Marauders have identical 2-2 records, while the Queen's Gaels (1-4) and Guelph Gryphons (0-5) round out the standings after Day 2.

The Mustangs started Saturday off against McMaster with Stefan Houbtchev, Tash Reddy, Farzin Habib Pour, Bryan Hill, and Pierce Masuhara recording wins as positions 2-6 respectively.
 
Western found similar success against Toronto in their final contest of the day, with Houbtchev, Habib Pour, Hill, and Masuhara all defeating their opponents to secure the 4-2 win for the Mustangs.
 
On the women's side, Queen's and Toronto have perfect 4-0 records and will battle each other Sunday morning at 11am, with the winner taking home the OUA Championship banner. 

Western is currently in third place with a 2-2 record. Rounding out the standings after Day 2 are Brock (1-3), McMaster (1-3) and Waterloo (0-4). 

The purple and white went 1-2 in the women's bracket on Saturday, defeating Brock 5-1 before falling to Queen's and Toronto by 6-0 scores. The Mustangs won at positions two through six against the Badgers, with Michaela Khan, Nicola Crich, Robyn Lewis, Karen Lam, and Joanna Macleod all earning victories.
 
Western is set to take on Waterloo on Sunday in their final matchup of the tournament.


Day One Results

The Western Mustangs men's and women's squash teams both went undefeated on the first day of competition at the OUA Squash Championships, with the men's team going 2-0, while the women's squad was 1-0.
 
The Mustangs men's side started the day off with a dominant 6-0 win over Guelph, winning at all six positions by the same 3-0 score. Nick Guest, Stefan Houbtchev, Tash Reddy, Farzin Habib Pour, Bryan Hill, and Pierce Masuhara picked up the wins for the purple and white.
 
Western also came out on the winning side in their final men's game of the day, defeating Waterloo 4-2. Reddy, Habib Pour, Hill, and Masuhara each earned the win at their positions to give the Mustangs the overall match victory.
 
The Mustangs were just as successful in their lone match on the women's bracket, defeating the McMaster Marauders 5-1. Holly Delavigne, Michaela Khan, Nicola Crich, Karen Lam, and Robyn Lewis all earned 3-0 wins over their opponents to secure the win.
 
Both teams are back in action tomorrow with the men's team taking on McMaster and Toronto, while the women's team will face off with the host Brock Badgers followed by the Queen's Gaels and the Toronto Varsity Blues.
