Mustangs split three game weekend

TORONTO, Ont. – Last weekend saw the Mustangs head back to Toronto for another trio of games, this time coming away with one win, one loss, and one tie.

Saturday evening saw the Mustangs take on McGill in their first matchup of the weekend. Straight from the start Western was in control, setting the pace of the game while the Martlets struggled to keep up with quick purple and white transfers.

After patiently waiting, the Mustangs were able to bury their first goal of the weekend against McGill. The Mustangs kept their momentum as they pushed forward to score once again, leaving McGill unable to catch up. Goalkeeper Margaret Yu, received her first shut out of the season closing the game with a score of 2-0.

Sunday brought two new games for Western, starting with York.

As the first half began, Western dominated and maintained possession of the ball.  However, as the teams battled in front of the goal line, York was able to slip the ball past the Mustangs and taking a single goal lead. As the game continued on, Western was unable to catch up and walked away with a disappointed 1-0 loss.

In their final game of the weekend, the Mustangs took on their longtime rival in Queen's. Western quickly took a 2-goal lead against the Gaels with leading goal scorer Katie Young, who managed to score both points for Western. Queen's responded by evening the score with just two minutes remaining to end the game at 2-2.

The Mustangs are back in action on September 28, when they take on the Waterloo Warriors in Guelph. Over the weekend the team will then head to Waterloo to take on Toronto and take another shot at Queen's.
