Fans of Western volleyball are running out of time to see the Mustangs compete in Alumni Hall, as their Saturday matchup against Windsor marks the penultimate weekend of action on home court.
Â
Only four more weeks of the regular season remain and the Mustangs will not return to Alumni Hall until the weekend of February 17.
Â
Windsor enters this week with a 4-8 record to sit fifth in the OUA West. Western has already topped the Lancers once this season, with the Mustangs winning two of the three sets by more than five points.Â
Â
The Mustangs currently hold an 11-1 record following a three set victory over the Badgers last weekend, and will head into the match as one of only three OUA Schools on the U SPORTS Top 10, coming in at number eight on this week's rankings.
Â
Western has maintained one of the best records in the league largely through their attack efficiency, offering a .236 hitting percentage. Toronto's OUA leading .239 is well within reach, however, especially if the Mustangs are able to pull out a repeat performance of last week's match when the Mustangs made only eight attack errors over three sets.
Â
That trend is nothing new though.
Kelsey Veltman,
Aja Gyimah, and
Candice Scott have led the Mustangs throughout the last few years and only seem to be improving with every season. Second-year
Kaleigh Matheson and rookies
Melissa Langegger and
Carly Kimmett have also carved out spots for themselves despite a competitive starting lineup.
Â
The biggest indicator of the Mustangs' offensive prowess is undoubtedly the low defensive numbers the team has recorded this season. Western sits at the bottom of the league in digs per set (11.48) and second-last in total digs (505). In order for the Mustangs to be able to dig up a ball, the opposing team has to be able to return it.
Â
Windsor's strengths seem to exist in complete opposition to that of the Mustangs.
Â
Strong defence is the greatest advantage of the Lancers, led by libero Carleigh Bailey. Her 4.96 digs per set lead the OUA and have provided a stable foundation on which Windsor has built one of the most talented defensive lineups.
Â
Oddly enough, their coverage doesn't seem to be nearly as effective on serve receive. The Lancers have racked up the fifth-highest number of reception errors this season (75), so the presence of Scott and Veltman at the base line may cause trouble.

Game time is set for 6 p.m. at Alumni Hall, with fans able to catch all the action
