MUSTANGS HEAD BACK ON THE ROAD FOR OUA FINAL FOUR AGAINST RAVENS

10/30/2018 12:30:00 PM

OTTAWA, Ont. - The Western men's soccer team will be back on the road this Friday, November 2, where they will take on the Carleton Ravens for a matchup in the OUA semifinals in Ottawa, Ontario.

The game will be the Mustangs' first opportunity to face off against the Ravens since the 2009-2010 season, where Western won 3-2 in a shootout victory over Carleton in the OUA Final Four nearly a decade ago.

Western will be entering Friday's game following their second shootout victory in a row, taking down Guelph 1-0 last Sunday to advance to the OUA Final Four.

But despite a pair of impressive playoff victories to begin the postseason, Western will be going up against one of the best teams Ontario has to offer in the Ravens. Carleton, who finished the season with an incredible 14-1-1 record in a competitive OUA East division, leads the OUA in shots, goals, assists, corner kicks, and shutouts, dominating on both ends of the field.

The Ravens' potent offence is led by striker Gabriel Bitar, who scored an incredible 13 goals to go along with four assists throughout the regular season. Western goalkeeper Kody Thompson, who has been the catalyst behind the Mustangs' playoff success, will be tested once again against the OUA's most prolific offence.

On the other side of the ball, Western will be boasting some of the best individual talent in the division, but in order to come out with the victory, the purple and white will need to play a full 90 minutes, something head coach Martin Painter has been waiting for all season long.

"We've got a really talented group of guys, but we've struggled to put together a complete game all year and talent simply isn't going to be enough as we continue through the playoffs, it takes complete discipline," said Painter following Western's first-round victory over Windsor. "We've had guys step up and make big plays, but our focus tends to drop off late in the game, so we're still figuring out how to remain sharp for the full 90 minutes. It's been the project all season."

The game is set to begin at 3:00 P.M. EST. in Ottawa, Ontario and fans can catch the action live on OUA.tv.
