KINGSTON, Ont. – The streak continues for the Western Mustangs as the men's squash team captured their 35th consecutive OUA Championship on Sunday afternoon at the Queen's Athletics and Recreation Centre.
Western ran the table on the men's side winning all five of their games while going an impressive 45-0 in their matches to extend a championship streak that began during the 1983-84 season. The Waterloo Warriors finished at 5-1 to claim silver just ahead of the bronze medalist hosts the Queen's Gaels who defeated Toronto to seal a medal position Sunday.
The Mustangs took bronze on the women's side, claiming third place with 21 match wins, while the Toronto Varsity Blues earned silver with 37 victories, and the Gaels took the top spot with 41 wins.
The Gaels won all five of their games while earning a 41-4 record in matches which was four better than second-place Toronto. The Gaels and Varsity Blues closed out the day in a contest that saw Queen's take the title when the Gaels Alysha Anzik defeated Toronto's Rhead Dhar in a thrilling match.
Leading Western to their 45th overall men's banner were Matt Henderson and David Mill who were named OUA All-Stars for their efforts. Mill also took home the OUA MVP award finishing 6-0 with an 18-5 record. The top rookie for men's squash went to a member of the host Gaels Alex Collins who helped his team reach the podium for OUA bronze.
Individually on the women's side, Heather McLachlin finished undefeated for the Brock Badgers at 5-0 earning her not only the OUA women's rookie of the year but the MVP title as well. The impressive first-year went 15-4 in her games from the number one position. Western's Amy Commisso was recognized for her efforts at the championship, earning a spot on the OUA All-Star team.
The coaches of the year went to Vinit Kudva of Waterloo on the men's side, his fifth straight coach of the year recognition, while Josh Ginou was named the top women's coach leading the Varsity Blues to an OUA silver.

KINGSTON, Ont. - The OUA squash championships are in full swing after two days in Kingston as teams from across the province are competing for the provincial banners.
Heading into championship Sunday, the Queen's Gaels and Toronto Varsity Blues women are both undefeated and on pace for a championship-deciding final matchup at 1:30 pm on Sunday. On the men's side, it will be a similar scenario as the Western Mustangs, and Waterloo Warriors are both undefeated and meet at 11 am Sunday in what could be a championship-deciding match.
On the women's side, Queen's sits at 4-0 having gone 35-1 while Toronto is at 3-0 with a 26-1 record in their games. Western is the next closest to the undefeated teams at 2-2 and 15-21 but has lost to both Queen's and Toronto by 9-0 margins.
The top five players for the Varsity Blues are all sitting at 9-0 while Queen's has three players at 12-0, one at 12-1 and another at 9-0. Queen's has been led by Hanna Grover who has a 132-27 points record so far while the standout for Toronto so far has been Thandi Myers who has played to a 99-29 points record.
For the men's side, the Western Mustangs continue to be a dominant force sitting at a perfect 4-0 and 36-0 in matches while having gone 79-3 in their games thus far. Waterloo sits undefeated at 4-0 but have a 33-3 record and have gone 75-20 in their games thus far. The Queen's Gaels round out the top three having gone 3-1 while going 26-10 in their matches.
Individually, five Mustangs are undefeated at 12-0 with Stefan Houbtchev putting up the top performance at 132-13 so far. The Warriors have been led by Thomas Manley who is their lone 12-0 member while the Gaels have been led by Spencer Lee who has performed to an 11-2 record.
