London, ON - In their lone appearance at home for the season, the Mustangs had a busy weekend.
Western started the day off strong against McGill, fighting hard and coming out victorious with a 5-0 win.
Western's veteran players Madison Fisher, Maddie Romeril, Nicky Feutl, and returning player Céili Randall all lead the charge, scoring 4 out of Western's 5 goals. The Mustangs fifth goal was scored by first year stand out, Rachel Tidball.
With the day heating up, the Mustangs fought hard, battling the heat as well as their long-time rivals the York Lions. The Mustangs showed their strength, defensively channeling the Lions out of center field while hitting strong balls up the wing. In the end, York capitalized offensively with a few short corners and breaks from the top, resulting in a 3-0 loss for the Mustangs.
The Mustangs then moved to a meeting with the Guelph Gryphons on Sunday.
"The team took a massive leap forward from their first game of the season." said Mustangs Head Coach Jeff Pacheco.
The final score was 4-2 for the Gryphons, Mustang goals were scored by second year player, Madison Fisher, and first year star, Kuljit Sahota.
Western will now head to Toronto next weekend where they will play against the Varsity Blues on Saturday and Waterloo on Sunday.
