Box Score London, ON - The Mustangs tied the Marauders in an intense game on Friday.
The Western Mustangs played an aggressive game on Friday evening, finishing with a score of 0-0 against their opponents, The McMaster Marauders. The two teams proved to be evenly matched, as the shots on net were a close 5-4 in favour of the Mustangs after the first half. There were many instances where both groups came close to scoring, but no player was successful in finding the net to earn their team a point.
The skies opened up in the first half of the game, creating a slippery field and changing the conditions for both teams. Shortly after, Nicola Panaccione from Western was taken down in a collision with an opponent from the Marauders. Nicola appeared to be badly hurt, but was able to walk off of the field after some discussion with trainers. The team rallied together given the situation and refused to lose energy when they needed to rearrange their players on the field. "We were forced into a couple of changes and players came on and did well so it was a good team effort," said head coach Martin Painter.
Western showed an improvement in their stamina on the field when compared to their last home game against Brock. "I thought our compete level was good. Our intensity was good. I was happy with the ninety minute effort. I thought as the game was going on, we were getting stronger," said Painter. With the improvements the ladies bring to the field every game, it is no secret they are a force to be reckoned with this season.
After this game, the Mustangs hold an impressive record of 7-0-2, and are hungry for another win in their next game, happening quickly in two days.
Western is set to hit the field again on Sunday, versus the University of Windsor at 1:00 PM on Alumni Field.
