London, ON - The Mustangs met the Warriors on home turf for their opening game of the season. While Waterloo, a strong defensive team with key players on their right-side attack, scored an early goal against Western in the first quarter of the game, our Mustangs kept their composure and continued to press into Waterloo's half of the pitch.
A second goal from Waterloo meant that our players had to focus on transitioning the ball with help from midfield players Sophie Schmidt and Katie-Jo Smith.
A goal from co-captain Madison Fisher, assisted by Olivia Hledin, brought the momentum back to the home-field team, and with a final goal from veteran player Payten Lang, the Mustangs tied the score at 2-2, ready to face Waterloo again the next day.
