London, ON – The Mustangs Field Hockey team is moving on in the OUA Playoffs after a hard-fought 4-2 win over Waterloo on Wednesday night.

"Waterloo came in here earlier in the season and took a few points from us, the only team that did that this season, we had to win out the rest of the season to put ourselves in this spot and I'm so proud of our group," said Head Coach Jeff Pacheco "We got the attack going early on today and then some insurance late so it was great to see our group dig in and show our resiliency and character to get this win,"

The Mustangs made a near-immediate statement in the game, scoring just 3 minutes into the game when Payten Lang scored to give Western a 1-0 lead. At the 26-minute mark, Sophie Schmidt extended the Western lead making it 2-0. Waterloo would respond right away with a goal of their own in the 26th minute to cut the score to 2-1.

Western would bounce back a few minutes later when Kuljit Sahota netted a goal to make it 3-1.

After Waterloo would strike again in the 43rd minute, Western's Megan McCormick would put the game away in the 45th minute to secure the win and push the Mustangs on to the OUA Semi-Finals.

"The only time we lost on our home field this year was against Waterloo so we knew we needed to win this game tonight to get back at them," said Schmidt "There is no doubt a big rivalry between both teams and I think we really showed what we can do and really earned this win,"

The Mustangs will head to Toronto this Saturday night for a 6:00pm start against the Varsity Blues with a spot in the OUA Finals on the line.

"Our hands are definitely full with U of T, we have to go back to the drawing board, we tied them 1-1 at the start of the season," said Pacheco "I know they want some retribution for us taking points away from them so I'm looking forward to a great game, let's have it."

"We're so ready for this opportunity to show what we can do," said Schmidt "We're going to take the next couple of days to prepare, eat right and get ready for a big game,"
