St. Thomas, ON - The 2022 OUA golf season got underway Thursday morning as the Mustangs hosted the annual Western Invitational at St. Thomas Golf & Country Club.

The Mustangs Women's Golf team picked right up where they left off last season with a 1st place finish in both the team standings and individually.

The 2021 OUA Champions shot a team total 239, with Lexie McKay shooting a 71 for a 5 stroke win over the field.

"St. Thomas is the hardest course we played all year and I was nervous going into it after my tough round last year." said McKay "On my first hole I started with an eagle on a par 5 so that instantly made me feel comfortable and I changed my mindset to be a lot more aggressive instead of playing defensively. Everything seemed to click and I just played really solidly."

Rylie Grogan shot an 81 joined by Cinday Won & Ciara Tully-Cornie who each shot 87's for the Mustangs.

"So far, we're on the right track after winning gold at our home tournament, both in the individual and team divisions." said Grogan "Everyone is an integral part of this team and are contributing members in all of our successes."

"We have another great team this year with most of us returning from last year as well as two new additions," said McKay "I think we are all confident every time we go out to a tournament because we know we can get it done. After winning last year we are even more hungry to go back-to-back".

On the Men's side, Robert McVinnie shot a team best 71 as the Mustangs finished in 3rd place in team standings. Westen finished with a team total of 301 on the day.

Luca Ferrara & Griffin Nogas each shot 74 with Ty Stansfield & Riley Mathieson firing 75's.

The Mustangs have a quick turnaround as they head to Hamilton on Sept 19th for the McMaster event at King's Forest Golf Club.
